Herberton Heart of the North is an immersive documentary narrated by Jack Thompson and a team of talented actors, that features music by Mick Thomas for a new purpose-built cinema space inside a grand old hall building as part of Histric Village Herberton. This documentary charts the story of a mineral-rich region in North Queensland; from the time of the Djirrbal people to the arrival of Europeans in search of minerals; the development of the timber industry; and the construction of a railway across one of the most rugged landscapes in Australia up to the present day.

This history wouldn't have been possible without access to the archives of State Library of Queensland Queensland State Archives James Cook University The University of Queensland hashtag#HerbertonMiningMuseumHistoryAssociation Cairns Museum The Royal Historical Society of Queensland Eacham Historical Society and local knowledge from members of the Djirrbal community hashtag#AthertonChineseTemple Wilderness Expeditions and more.
